While your student is waiting to receive their device, here are a list of some things that you and your child can do at home to support their learning:
1. Practice writing their name and other letters of the alphabet.
2. Read books together and practice retelling what happened and talking about the characters and setting. Ask who, what, when, where, why, and how questions.
3. Count, sort, combine, and separate large quantities of various items, such as colored cereal, blocks or legos, toy cars, or coins.
4. Practice counting and writing numbers to 120.
5. Cut out labels from favorite foods and other items' packaging to make a book of environmental print for your child to read.
Once students have their device, it is important that they are allowed to work independently on their intervention websites such as iReady Math, iReady Reading, Splashlearn, and Imagine Learning. These programs instruct and work the student on their own individual level and adjusts as the student learns and grows. If they are receiving outside help, it could result in the student being given work that is too difficult for them, which leads to frustration within the student and our goal is for them to feel successful and confident.
