The Office of Federal Programs coordinates several compensatory education programs mandated by federal and state law.  Title I is a federally funded,  supplemental program designed to assist learners who are educationally disadvantaged.  The purpose of Title I is to support students who are failing or at-risk of failing to meet state standards.  This is accomplished by ensuring high standards for all; increasing quality instructional time; improving instruction through staff development; enhancing parent participation in the educational process; expanding educational resources; and strengthening accountability.  The office also coordinates additional state-funded program, which provides additional instructional resources to help targeted elementary students reach grade level performance in the shortest possible time.The Office of Federal Programs is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the District's federal, state, and public/private foundation grants and cooperative agreements.  This management and supervision include program and fiscal management and compliance.  In addition, this office seeks additional sources of funding to enhance the District's educational initiatives.  The Office of Federal Programs manages the compliance of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
