Virtual Learning Activities

Here are some suggestions to help with ELA/Writing instruction while your child is home:

 

ELA/Writing goals (1st nine weeks)

  •     Uppercase letter recognition
  •     Lowercase letter recognition
  •     Letter sounds
  •     Print letters correctly, writing from the top down. Make sure capital letters are tall,     lowercase letters are small, tall letters are tall (t, d, k, l, b f, h) and letters that fall below the line (q, y, p, g, j) are placed correctly.
  •     Write name correctly. Capital letter at the beginning, the rest lowercase.  (There are some exceptions)
  •   Work on rhyming words (Nursery Rhymes are great for this!)
  •     Follow multi-step directions
  • Read to or with your child daily for 15-20 minutes.  (websites: Reading A-Z (Raz-Kids), Get Epic) Student usernames/passwords will be provided
  • Sight word practice (View handout section for monthly sight word list)
 

Suggestions:

Use index cards to create flash cards for games:

  •     Play Memory (uppercase to uppercase/lowercase to lowercase/uppercase to lowercase)
  •     Practice writing name/letters
  •     Play rhyming games, make up rhymes

 

Here are some suggestions to help with Math instruction while your child is home:

 

Math goals (1st nine weeks)

  • Counting to 30
  • Writing numbers 1-12 correctly
  • Number recognition 1-12 (tested in random order; however, work on mastery before using random order)
  • 2D shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, heart, star, rhombus, hexagon, trapezoid, octagon
  • Identify colors: red, blue, orange, green, yellow, purple, black, white, brown, pink, gray
  • Reciting the Days of the Week, Months of the Year, Four Seasons
  • Comparing objects up to 5 and stating which is more/ less
  • Patterns: AB 
 

Suggestions:

  •     Play Go Fish
  •     Make a pattern using Skittles or M & Ms. red, yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow
