Hello!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am Ms. Rhonda Hughes and I am very excited welcome you to Kindergarten at Ridgeland Elementary School. This is my seventh year at Ridgeland and my 20th year as a teacher. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year full of growth and learning.

Here are the skills that we will be focusing on for the first 9 weeks. Please assist your child with these. Use the videos under the Reading/Open Court Phonics and Math tabs for reinforcement.
Letter recognition
Have your child write his/her name and be able to identify the letters.
Review the sight word list for the month. Write simple sentences with the sight words.
Practice handwriting. We are working on neatness and keeping our writing on a straight line.
Practice writing numbers 1 - 10.
Work on counting groups of objects up to 10.
Homework
There are 3 things you need to do every day as part of your homework. 1. Read for 10 minutes with someone or to someone.
2. Review your sight word list.
3. Practice your handwriting.
An easy way to take care of 2 and 3 at the same time is to write your sight words!
