In November, RES fourth and fifth grade students were involved in a 2-day Science experiment called “Incredible Wearables” that was conducted by Mr. Cornelius Hamilton and his counterparts, (Ms. Cuttingham- Day 1) and (Ms. Brown-Day 2). Mr. Hamilton is the Director of the SC State University 1890 Extension Program. The students had to create wearable devices that would track their heart rates and pulses over a period of time. They were given pulse oximeters, ipads, connectors, pieces of felt paper, and pieces of velcro. As a result, the students’ creations ranged from an arm cuff to an ankle cuff which allowed them to track their heart rates/pulses.
